What does a Home School Link Worker Do?
Mrs Harwood's role is to provide support to you and your family to enable your children to enjoy school and feel happy and safe.
What sort of issues can Mrs Harwood help with?
Parent/carers who are experiencing difficulties managing their child's behaviour. Children who are finding school difficult, who are anxious or reluctant to come to school.
- Mrs Harwood supports the school attendance team by building strong relationships with families, listening to and understanding barriers to attendance and working with families to remove them.
- She can support children in school with 1:1 or group sessions as appropriate. Before she starts to work with your child, Mrs Harwood will always obtain your consent.
- Mrs Harwood is also able to guide you to other sources of help, advice and support as appropriate.
Families who are going through difficult times such as illness, separation, divorce, bereavement, domestic violence or financial worries.
-
Mrs Harwood understands that being a parent can be rewarding, but it can also be one of the hardest jobs you will ever do. She can offer you a safe place for you to discuss your concerns, an informal listening ear and some understanding of the many ups and downs of family life.
-
Mrs Harwood is also able to refer families in need to the Woking Foodbank for emergency food supplies as well as signposting to other places that offer help. If you have financial worries at the moment and are struggling to make ends meet, there may be some ways that we can support you.
These include
-
Checking whether you are eligible for 'Pupil Premium' funding in school - if you qualify (based on your income), you are then also able to access free holiday clubs and food vouchers for the holidays.
-
Issuing voucher for the Woking Foodbank for emergency food supplies
-
Referring to the Jigsaw project in The Lighthouse in Woking which provides good quality pre-loved clothes, toys and equipment for children under 11
-
Referring to John Beane's who can provide grants for white goods, carpet for children's bedrooms, school uniforms
-
Referring to CAP Debt advice if you have worries about debts you have built up and want help with budgeting and getting out of debt.
