School Admission Appeals

If your application for a place at Send CofE has been unsuccessful, you have a statutory right to appeal that decision to an Independent Appeal Panel.

As our own Admissions Authority, the Governing Board is responsible for the decision to refuse a place. However, to ensure total impartiality, we use the Surrey School Appeals Service to manage the appeals process on our behalf.

How to Lodge an Appeal

To lodge an appeal, you must complete the Surrey Online Appeal Form. You can find the form and a comprehensive "Information for Parents" guide on the Surrey County Council website: Appeal a School Place - Surrey County Council

Appeals Timetable: September 2026 Entry

The following deadlines apply for children starting school in September 2026. Appeals lodged by these deadlines will be heard within 40 school days.

Entry Year National Offer Day Deadline to Lodge Appeal Appeals to be Heard By
Reception 16 April 2026 15 May 2026 17 July 2026
  • In-Year Appeals: If you are applying for a place mid-term, your appeal must be lodged as soon as possible and will be heard within 30 school days of being received.

  • Late Appeals: Appeals lodged after the deadlines above may be heard alongside those lodged on time where possible; otherwise, they will be heard within 30 school days of being lodged.

What to Expect During the Process

The appeals process follows a strict legal framework to ensure fairness to both the family and the school.

  1. Notice of Hearing: You will receive at least 10 school days' notice of the date and time of your appeal hearing.

  2. Submission of Evidence: If you wish to submit additional evidence (such as medical letters or professional reports) not included in your original application, this must be received by the Appeals Service by 5:00 PM, three clear working days before the hearing.

  3. The Hearing: The appeal will be heard by an Independent Panel of three people. A representative from the school (the Headteacher or a Governor) will also attend to explain why a place was not offered.

  4. The Decision: You will be notified of the Panel’s decision in writing, usually within 5 school days of the hearing. The decision of the Independent Appeal Panel is binding on both the school and the appellant.

Exceptional Social or Medical Need

If you believe your child has an exceptional social or medical need for a place at this school specifically, please ensure you have read our Admissions Policy.

Evidence for such claims (e.g., from a GP, Consultant, or Social Worker) should be submitted at the time of application. If this evidence was not available at that time, it should be provided as part of your appeal documentation to allow the Independent Panel to consider the full context of your circumstances.
