Is my child too ill for school?

We understand that sometimes children do get poorly and that they are too unwell to be in school.  It can be tricky deciding whether to keep your child off school when they're unwell.

Children with mild symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, or slight cough, who are otherwise well, CAN and SHOULD come to  school.

Children who have vomited or had an episode of diarrhoea should remain at home for 48 hours after their last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea.

Children who have been prescribed antibiotic treatment for any illness should stay at home for 24 hours after starting the course of medicine

What to do if your child is too ill to come to school

Parents must let the school office as soon as possible and no later than 9am. You can leave a message on the answerphone or send a message to attendance@sendcofe.co.uk. When leaving a message, please give:
Your child's first and last name
Their class, year group or teacher
The full reason for absence
The office will follow up all unexplained absences after 9.15am each day.

The school must decide whether to authorise the absence on the grounds of illness.
This means parents need to give us full details of the absence, e.g. temperature, vomiting.

If the reason given for absence is “they are poorly”, we will contact you to find out more about why they
are not in school.

If we do not receive enough information to explain the illness, then we will not authorise your child’s absence.

You will need to make sure you keep in contact with the school on a daily basis with an update about your child's illness and when they will return to school.
