Reading scheme for EYFS, KS1 and KS2
Children in Reception are introduced to reading with a mixture of texts from the ‘Jelly and Bean’ and the ‘Dandelion readers’ scheme. The books are colour coded into a level of challenge, which pupils work through sequentially. Children will change their reading books regularly when the class teacher, in partnership with reading taken place at home, deems that the child is ready to progress onto the next text. Every child has an individual reading diary and staff will hear the children read regularly across the week.
Key stage 1
Children in KS1 have a wide variety of different reading schemes, including ‘Jelly and Bean’ and ‘Dandelion, to suit all tastes and widen their experiences of reading. The books are colour coded into a level of challenge, which pupils work through sequentially. They will take part in guided reading activities every day and classroom based staff will listen to each child read at least once a week. Children have the opportunity to change their reading book every day.
Key stage 2
Children at KS2 have access to a range of reading materials to enhance their reading and comprehension skills.. The books are colour coded into a level of challenge, which pupils work through sequentially. Independent reading is recorded in individual diaries, which is checked weekly by the class teacher. Once children have progressed onto chapter books, they may choose from a range of free reading chapter books from our class library or they may bring in chapter books from home.
